Removing the exhaust manifold can be a pretty labor intensive process and you don't want to shoot yourself in the foot by doing all that labor only to discover that you have an annoying exhaust leak after installation. Exhaust gaskets endure some of the harshest of conditions due to extreme temperature changes and after a while, they can become brittle and come apart.
